Artist Profile: Snotty Nose Rez Kids

Snotty Nose Rez Kids

Like so many artists, Snotty Nose Rez Kids went through a challenging year and a half. Through the difficulties of 2020 and the better part of 2021, the band channelled everything into their latest release, Life After. At a time when a large majority of their revenue through live music was not coming in, the band relied heavily on grant funding to get through the release of their latest album. Thanks to Radio Starmaker, the duo successfully completed an album campaign for Life After and was subsequently able to tour internationally to support the release.

From a marketing perspective, Starmaker gave SNRK the opportunity to continue developing their presence within Canada and awarded them the funding to continue to build their presence within the US. It was particularly invaluable because the band, after cancelling their debut US headline tour in 2020 due to COVID, were finally able to carry out their tour in 2021, so much of their album campaign efforts included converting marketing and PR tactics in the US into tangible ticket buyers for their tour dates.

SNRK thrives off touring. In 2019 alone, they performed over 100 shows. Unfortunately, COVID brought all that to a grinding halt. The band rebooked their US tour three times before finally carrying out a set of dates in the fall of 2021. It was thanks to Starmaker's support that the band could take on somewhat of a risk with touring while COVID was still present. Despite restrictions lifting, it's still a tough market, with as many as 25% of ticket buyers still not showing up and general uneasiness with large crowds. Starmaker’s support gave the band confidence to carry out the tour with financial support to handle the financial constraints. From a mental health standpoint, the band is also appreciative that they were able to perform consistently again.

With the support of Starmaker, SNRK were able to have their most successful album release to date, their largest week 1 debut of sales, their best radio charting for a project yet with the album landing in the top 5 and 10 of various charts, their first music video making it into rotation at BET and MTV, and there are bound to be more successes in the band's future.
