Oshawa, Ontario based Dizzy released their debut album Baby Teeth in 2018, which went on to win Alternative Album of the Year at the JUNOs and was long listed for a Polaris Music Prize. 2020 saw them release their sophomore album The Sun and Her Scorch and continue to grow their audience both domestically and internationally. The album hit No. 3 on the Alternative Charts in Canada and No. 10 on the US Alternative New Artist Albums and No. 33 on the US Top New Artists Albums.
Releasing a record in 2020 had its challenges, but with the support of Radio Starmaker Fund the band was able to increase their marketing budgets both domestically and internationally with a focus on press, radio, street level and digital marketing. This allowed the band to continue to broaden their audience and increase their fanbase when they could not tour. The additional spends on publicity in the United Kingdom and the United States allowed the band to hire more high profile companies which in turn increased the amount and quality of the press the band received, especially in the United States – a market they previously struggled to gain attention in.
With the help of Starmaker the band also invested in additional digital marketing strategies that help to increase their overall followers, reach and engagement across platforms. They have more than doubled their followers on most social platforms and through strategic advertising reached their highest monthly listenership on Spotify to date. Though touring was not an option in 2020, through the help of the fund, the band has continued to build a strong audience that will welcome the band once touring resumes.
