Success Fact: Ellen Doty

My name is Ellen Doty. I’m a jazz singer-songwriter originally from Okotoks, Alberta, but I currently make my home in Edmonton. My most recent album, Come Fall, was released on Alma Records (Universal Music Canada) in March of 2018, debuting at No. 1 on the iTunes Jazz Charts. I was also honoured to be featured in an ad for Sunrise Records with Norah Jones, Diana Ross, Jann Arden, and more as part of my album release campaign.

The funding I received from Radio Starmaker to support my domestic and international touring was truly instrumental in the success of this project. As a result of my performances in Japan, I was signed to Inpartmaint Records out of Tokyo, and was brought back to Japan for a headline performance at the Tokyo Jazz Festival. Japan is a new market for me, and I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to explore it without the support from Radio Starmaker. As a jazz artist, there are even more obstacles to overcome on the path to success, so having grant funding to assist with my touring has been very impactful. Following the release of Come Fall, I completed a 19-show Canadian tour, as well as a jazz festival tour with many sold-out performances. I will now have the opportunity to return to those markets to perform at larger venues, and to continue to explore new markets internationally. I feel incredibly grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve had in the past year, and look forward to continuing to reach new levels of success as a Canadian female jazz artist.
