Artist Profile: Andy Shauf

Andy Shauf

Andy Shauf is a Toronto-based singer-songwriter, originally from Bienfait, SK. His 2016 album The Party has amassed a growing international audience, while being celebrated back home by making the 2016 Polaris Music Prize shortlist and nominated for three JUNO Awards in 2017 for Adult Alternative Album, Breakthrough Artist, and Recording Engineer.

Starmaker eligibility came at a key time in Shauf's growth, in the midst of several European and North American tours in 2016-2018, and enabled Andy to continue to use a full band on the road and make lasting impressions with key radio and television sessions including The Late Late Show with James Corden, KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic, NPR's Tiny Desk Concert, and a BBC1 session with Huw Stephens. The touring cycle for The Party saw Andy graduate from the stage at the Drake to a sold-out performance at Massey Hall in November 2017.

Developing international markets is extremely expensive and involves a high level of risk. Starmaker support has allowed Andy to say “yes” to support tours and tours where the travel costs of a six-piece band and crew would usually be financially prohibitive. As a result, Shauf's audience has grown significantly over the past two years, and after a series of sold-out tours in over a dozen markets around the world, Andy will be in a very different position when he launches the follow-up to The Party in 2019.
