Success Fact: Leif Vollebekk

Leif Vollebekk

When you're starting out, being a touring musician usually means being an opening act. It's good exposure but budgets can be tight and having access to the Radio Starmaker Fund can really make a difference. Later, when you start headlining your own shows, their support means that it's not a stretch to bring the band out on the road for weeks on end and try to grow your audience in new cities.

A good publicist is worth their weight in gold. Thanks in part to the Radio Starmaker Fund, my record label was able to hire some the smartest, hardest-working people I've met in this business, which meant new faces at every show. And it meant people knew the words to my songs in places I hadn't ever even set foot. What a difference that made.

I count myself lucky to live in Canada where organizations like the Radio Starmaker Fund step in to help with the costs of making independent music.
