Success Fact: Alejandra Ribera

Born and raised in Toronto, Alejandra Ribera released her debut La Boca in February 2014. The album was picked up for release in France, Benelux, the UK and Germany via the esteemed Harmonia Mundi label. Starmaker support allowed Alejandra to enhance marketing overseas and tour throughout the release territories. By supporting her early tours, she was able to acquire a label and agents in France and Germany to help build her touring profile.

Alejandra was able to both develop new markets and create a buzz overseas to lead into a new release, greatly widening her potential audience. The Radio Starmaker Fund was crucial to this development, the results of which will truly be felt upon release of her new album in 2017.

Application Evaluation

Applications to the Radio Starmaker Fund are evaluated on four major criteria:

• The track record of the artist
• The amount of money invested by the applicant and his/her label
• The quality of the marketing plan, both the proposed RSF portion and the portion to which the applicant has committed through their significant investment
• The amount of money the Radio Starmaker Fund has available for the round

In order to qualify for the Radio Starmaker Fund, artists are required to reach prescribed sales levels by genre and demonstrate a financial commitment to the marketing of their recorded project. Furthermore, the artist must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and the ownership of the master recording must reside with a Canadian company.
