Artist Profile: Royal Wood

Royal Wood

Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Royal Wood has established himself as a true Canadian musical talent. Since being proclaimed “Songwriter of the Year” by iTunes early in his career, Royal has continued to evolve and hone his musical craft. He’s had two albums debut in the Soundscan Top 30, received multiple Juno Award nominations and had high profile sync placements on Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice among many others.

The Radio Starmaker Fund was integral in amplifying the success of Royal’s 2014 album The Burning Bright. The first single from the album, “Forever and Ever” saw Royal chosen as the Bell Media Future Star for January 2014 and was the #1 most added song at Hot AC radio. It was a Top 30 single at AC and Hot AC radio and was named one of the Top 100 singles of 2013 by CBC Radio 2.

The success that Starmaker helped fuel with The Burning Bright laid the foundation for Royal’s 2016 album, Ghost Light. The first single “Long Way Out” was one of CBC’s top 40 Songs of 2015 and continually charted on their weekly Top 20. The video for the album’s second single, “Good to Be Young” was shot in 360 and debuted via Google Play as the inaugural video in this new format to premiere via their official channels. Royal also leveraged the success of “Long Way Out” into partnership opportunities with Nordstrom Canada, as well as Fielding Estate Winery, placing Royal Wood interactive promotional items in 450 LCBO stores across Ontario.

Royal’s manager Steve Zsirai of Zed Music Inc. states that “having the support of Starmaker has allowed for touring opportunities and international exposure that would have otherwise been impossible. Royal has been able to afford a proper and professional press campaign both domestically and internationally and tour with a seasoned band and crew – helping to build his career by leaps and bounds. Throughout the 2015-2016 calendar years, Starmaker has supported more than 20 sold out shows. We would like to think that our relentless touring schedule has been the backbone of each successful record cycle and has directly correlated to building all facets of Royal’s business.”

The RSF has provided needed funding to support touring initiatives, showcasing opportunities, album marketing and artist branding. Starmaker has been a key partner in Royal Wood’s success and their support continues to allow us to push boundaries and constantly strive to improve his business.
