Calgary native Tareya Green and Richmond Hill born Mike Robins first met at a writing session for what was then to be Green’s solo project. From the moment they started writing together, something clicked. Their instant chemistry crystalized several months into these writing sessions, when, at a label holiday party jam session the two started singing together and the room fell into an awed silence at the magic unfolding in front of them. It was at that moment that Autumn Hill was born.
The duo’s rise has been nothing less than meteoric, starting with the launch of their debut single “Anything At All” in the Fall of 2012. Country radio stations across Canada instantly embraced the song and in a few short weeks it settled into the top of the charts for a long run. By the spring of 2013, their initial country radio success crossed over to the pop radio charts when the Bell Media chain of stations chose “Anything At All” for their Emerging Artist program. The song subsequently rode into the Top 30 at both Hot AC and AC radio, making Autumn Hill the first Canadian country act to cross over to pop radio since Shania Twain. The duo’s fall 2013 album release went on to spawn three more chart topping country singles, “Can’t Keep Waiting”, “Fire” and “If She Wants This Town” - a very impressive accomplishment for a first outing by a new group.
The success of “Anything At All” and the duo’s debut album release went on to collect numerous nominations and accolades including a CMAO Rising Star Award and CCMA and Juno nominations in the same category. All of this early success quickly brought the duo to the attention of festival promoters and club bookers that provided Autumn Hill a platform from which to connect directly to their newfound fans. They performed on festival stages across Canada including Boots and Hearts, Big Valley Jamboree, Cavendish and Havelock to name just a few. By the end of their first album cycle the duo had grown in popularity to the point where they were able to embark on a sold-out, thirty date, national co-headlining tour.
With the March 2015 release of their first single “Blame” from their new album Anchor, the duo quickly dispelled any concerns of a sophomore jinx. “Blame” rocketed to an all-time height for the group, peaking at #4 on the Canadian Country charts and #1 on the CMT Top 20 countdown. The momentum surrounding “Blame” and the band’s second album release carried Autumn Hill on to the 2015 CCMA Awards where they received a Best Group or Duo nomination and performed their hit single live at the Awards show. Their latest single “Return Policy”, which was just released to Country radio, was #2 most added at the format two weeks running and is already bulleting up the charts.
The Radio Starmaker Fund has played a critical role in fueling Autumn Hill’s rise from their start in 2012 to their current position as one of Canada’s premier country acts. Starmaker has allowed them and their label to take advantage of every opportunity presented to the group, providing much needed funding in the early days to support the duo’s extensive touring activities, supporting their involvement in critical showcasing opportunities such as the CCMA’s, the Juno Awards, CRS and many others. It has also provided the all too necessary financial assistance needed for continued marketing support which has been critical to Autumn Hill’s incredible growth. Simply put, without the Radio Starmaker Fund, Autumn Hill would not have the profile in the marketplace they do today.
